Electronics and Circuitry Course for Mid-School
Course Overview:
This class covers the basic fundamentals of electronics, electricity and circuits. Electronics is introduced as a branch of science called Physics. It details how electricity is used to carry and process information. Computers, digital cameras, video games, televisions and radios are all based on electronics. Circuits are paths through which electricity moves through following loops and as electricity passes, it lights bulbs, turns a fan or gets a toaster hot. Key components of a circuit are cell / battery, connecting wires, bulb or electric device and a key or switch to control the circuit. This class will demonstrate in practicals that electricity requires a path to flow from the positive end to the negative terminal of a cell. The class also exposes students to a rheostat used to control current by adjusting the resistance and resistors as components that obstruct the flow of electric current within circuits. Ammeters and galvanometers are also explored as important instruments in the electrical loop. Students will be able to explore in a step by step basis practical projects that link cells and circuits and create their projects
Learning Goals:
- Students must be able to define and explain what electronics and Circuitry is
- Students must be able to recognize a variety of exciting high-tech products and systems enabled by electronics.
- Manipulate voltages, currents and resistances in electronic circuits
- Explain clearly what an electronic circuit is and its components
- learners must be able to demonstrate familiarity with basic electronic components and use them to design simple electronic circuits
- Students will be able to carry out projects while manipulating the components
- Students will be able to visualize signals in the time and frequency
- Practical Projects will be done collaboratively
- Assessment
