Robotics: LEGO Mindstorms: Combines LEGO building with programming to create interactive robots

Course Overview:
This class helps introduce students to learn and build with Lego kits in a way that interacts with the physical world. The kits contain “Smart Brick” that are programmable with attachments such as sensors and actuators.

This class will focus on exploring the fundamentals of  Lego Mindstorm educational toys that help build a strong foundation in Robotics. Due to constant advancement, Lego has transitioned from Mindstorm to Spike Education kits that allow more flexibility.  Students will buy a (5 in 1 RC Tank – Remote Control STEM Building Blocks Robot – 400+ PCS Robotic Toys for Ages 7 years to 13 years) kit from Amazon ahead of class.  This toy helps students learn Robotics, Electronics and Programming) and costs CA$70

Learning Goals:

• Define Robotics and review the history of the science of robotics

• Name the three (3) general classification of Robotics

• Explain clearly why Robots are different from machines and tools

• Students will be able to apply engineering skills in coding robots

• Foster an interest in coding and animation.

• Learn to code using block-based visual programming.

• Build logical thinking skills.

• Students will understand some basics in electronics and sensors.
